Had a pretty good workout at the gym today.
Walked on the treadmill for 15 minutes to warm up and then did some stretching before using the LifeFitness machines to work my upper body muscles (I focus on the lower body, legs and butt every other workout.)
I am starting to enjoy my gym visits. It always seems so intimidating because I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing and kind of wonder around aimlessly trying to figure out what to do.
So, I started writing down the exercises, muscle groups, weights and repetitions in my iPhone notes to keep track of my progress. Now we’re talkin’!
I can build on each type of workout and keep modifying my list as I proceed through my 77-day (11 week), self-imposed boot camp. That way I don’t have a note pad or workout book to drag to the gym with me.
Here’s a screen shot of my last workout. It’s not very long or involved, but it’s a start. My thought is that this will help me build up a routine with a simple goal for each time I visit the gym: improve slightly on each gym visit.
Maybe I’ll walk on the treadmill a few minutes longer, or boost the number of reps, or increase the weight a little bit from the previous workout. Baby steps.
I know this seems kinda silly to those of you who are gym rats (just kidding). But I’m trying to get past my mental block when it comes to exercising indoors. Don’t think that I’m alone when I say my gym visits are not the highlight of my day.
The past few days, I’ve even thought about going to the gym more frequently just to try new workouts. Have to admit, my muscles are responding well. And as long as I don’t go nuts and get excessively sore or hurt myself by doing something stupid, I should be good.
We shall see what tomorrow brings when I begin Day 11 of my 77 day Boot Camp. Only 66 days to go! Yay! 🙂
